This A4 sized painting is turquoise ink with gold drifts. It was created with just the pure delight of putting vibrant colour on white paper. After a few stokes at random, I saw the body of a hummingbird bird. Then, with rapid sweeping strokes, I indicated the wings.
The effect of the ink-running out at the end of the stroke suggests it’s hovering movement.
As a complete coincidence, around Christmas, I was given the latest and sadly the last cd of Leonard Cohen, which contains a wonderful song ‘The Hummingbird’. The text reads:
Listen to the hummingbird,
Don’t listen to me.
Listen to the mind of God,
Don’t listen to me.
